Maggie's
World
My
life was so easy, so peaceful, so neat.
I had my own crate, my own bowl, my own treats.
My family loved me. I was the only one.
They played with me, walked me, all kinds of fun.
I slept on the bed with the little girl.
I was number one. This was my world.
One Saturday morning, mom left in a hurry.
Things were so hectic. It's still kind of blurry.
I
was left alone. Nothing new was expected.
Until mom came home and said, "Maggie meet Texas."
This
fur ball with legs was licking my snout.
I looked at my mom, "What's this all about?"
I couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped a mile.
And the little fur ball just sat there and smiled!
I
have to admit he is kind of cute.
His feet are so big and he's already huge.
He
tip toes to the yard. The grass must feel pokey.
He's jumping and rolling. This kid stuff is hokey.
He
comes right up and looks me in the eye.
"Are you ready to play, I'm a pretty strong guy!"
He pretends to pounce. He practices stalking.
It's funny to watch since he has trouble walking.
He
eats from my bowl, steals all of my treats.
But having him around has been kind of neat.
He
sleeps in my crate, which is okay with me.
Now mom knows how grown up I can be.
He
is fun to play with, we both love to run.
Tex isn't so bad, in fact, he's quite fun.
He
follows me around like all little brothers.
But there are times when I have to act like his
mother.
Teaching
him "No", "Don't bite" and "Don't mess".
How long it will take is anyone's guess.
So,
yes, he's okay. Not what I expected.
I know I'm still loved, spoiled and respected.
Mom
got Tex from the shelter. She did the right thing.
She has love to share and love is the best thing.
I
guess I'll keep him for better or worse.
We're best friends. That's a fact, of course.
We
now share our treats, our toys and our food.
My new life with Tex, I think, will be good.
Maggie
and Tex
Maggie
and Tex, oh what a pair!
The fun they have just has to be shared.
Though
Brother and Sister, they love one another.
It matters not that they don't have the same Mother.
Maggie
is older and she knows all the rules.
Tex is the baby and just likes to drool.
They have a big house with a giant backyard.
To keep it picked up is sometimes so hard.
Maggie
is teaching Tex to pick up his toys.
He is often distracted; you know boys will be
boys!
Tex
loves to play and he's working on wrestling.
But it looks more like it's Maggie he's pestering!
He's
really quite clumsy, but he tries very hard.
After a while mom yells, "Take it out to the yard!"
They
love the same toys, same food and same drinks.
After a hard day of play, they both sure do stink!
They
both hate the bath even though they love water.
Mom throws up her hands and exclaims, "Why do
I bother?"
Maggie
and Tex are the greatest of friends.
They'll stay together right up to the end.
We really do love them and they love us right
back.
Please excuse me while I get them a snack.
Maggie
and Tex have made us believers.
Our best friends are truly our Golden Retrievers!
